DESCRIPTION:

Selous Bush Camp is situated in the malaria free, Mankwe Wildlife Reserve in the North West Province. We are on the Northam Road (R510) about 10km from the Pilanesberg National Park and 25km from Sun City. The Pilanesberg Airport is 15km for the Reserve.

Accommodation

Accommodation at Selous Bush Camp is in authentic cotton canvas tents and all 12 tents have two single beds as well as en-suite bathrooms. All tents are slightly raised on wooden decks. Each tent also has its own private deck with coffee/tea making facilities. There is running water at the camp and a generator runs power in the evenings for lights and to charge cell phones or laptops, etcetera.

There is a large Boma for dinners and winter morning breakfasts. For lunches / brunches and summer breakfast there is a large main lounge and dining area. This is also used during inclement weather.

Activities and Attractions

Activities are game drives / safaris and bush walks (depending on qualified guide being available) on Mankwe Private Reserve. We also offer alternative activities like hot air ballooning, Big 5 game drives, etcetera, at an extra cost, off site.

Functions

Selous Bush Camp is also ideal for small private bush weddings and offers accommodation for up to 24 adults sharing in 12 tented chalets. The Mankwe Reserve has many stunning areas to do wedding photos and because we are only one of two concessions your stay is very exclusive.

Selous also offers team building and conferencing. Events such as Amazing Race, Archery and Clay Pigeon shooting are among those offered at Selous Bush Camp. Specialist will guide your team through programmes that are both challenging and fun.

Conferencing is pretty casual and we can supply a white board and markers. There is power supply in the main lounge area so the use of laptops and data projectors for conferencing is possible.

Selous Bush Camp offers superb game viewing, where bush walks, cycling and safari drives can be experienced. We look forward to welcoming you to our piece of heaven!

The Reserve

The Reserve is an exceptional diversity with 48 species of large mammals including White Rhino, Giraffe, Eland, Gemsbok, Greater Kudu, Tsesebe and Burchell's Zebra. Smaller species include 4 species of Mongoose, Spotted Neck and Cape Clawless Otter, Honey Badger, Porcupine and Spring Hare. Predators include Brown Hyena, Black-Backed Jackal, Caracal, Serval and the occasional Leopard.

The Reserve boasts 300 plus species of birds mixing those which frequent the dry Kalahari type habitat, and those that live in the wetter highveld region. The construction of dams has also led to an abundance of wetland bird species and other aquatic life. Nine plant communities have been identified which include over 85 grass, woody and herbaceous species.

There is only one other concession on Mankwe making this an exclusive option for the discerning traveler.

Children

Children of all ages are welcome at Selous and can share the tent with their parents but be advised that the tents are not large. We recommend that each parent share a tent with one or two children. Children are welcome on the bush walks and game drives subject to availability and age. Children under two years of age stay free but note that there are no child minders available in camp.
